Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola

February 15, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Living in Freedom
Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola

Mary Our Queen parishioners are invited this Lent and Easter to experience the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
The Spiritual Exercises are a “school of prayer” or an instrument for bringing you into an intimate encounter with God, revealed in Jesus Christ, and leads you to come to interior freedom – freedom that comes from ordering your life-values, from putting on the mind of Christ, and from adopting an attitude of indifference and detachment. It might be called the ultimate freedom – the freedom that accompanies deep awareness of the true meaning of your life, so to respond more generously to God’s call in your life.

The retreat is over 12 weeks – every Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., from February 15 to May 10. Each week is built off the previous week, and it is built upon a commitment of daily prayer with Scripture and other meditations in the Spiritual Exercises.

In Ignatian-style prayer with Scripture, the inspired words, originally spoken by God or to God in the Bible many centuries ago, are expressed and heard NOW between the Lord and the praying person. The words of Scripture become words for you: the event realizes a person-to-Person relationship.

Retreatants agree to pray one hour a day for 12 weeks, and keep a journal of their prayer experiences to share with other retreatants. This, too, is a source of great grace, and it is very effective in growing in the love of God as a community.

Regular spiritual direction will be given in a group or personal relationship (if desired), adapted to the particular needs and circumstances of those making the retreat.

Your spiritual guide for this “retreat in daily life” is Deacon Tim McNeil: chancellor of the Archdiocese of Omaha, spiritual director, and chaplain of the Omaha Police Department.

Any parishioner can participate.  All that’s required is the desire to deepen one’s friendship with Christ, Bible, journal, pen, and time every day to pray.
