Music and Liturgy

Mary Our Queen Music Ministry enriches the liturgical experience of the parish, allowing our community to experience sung prayer and meditation at weekly Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Additionally, we provide for the personal spiritual growth and the musical enrichment of each of our members through their participation in this ministry.

The musical opportunities are listed below. Music Ministry is always open to new members. If you have been thinking about getting involved, now is the perfect opportunity to see if it is right for you.

For more information or to get involved in any of these ministries, please contact Renee Spicka at 402.333.8231 ext 1210 or via email.

Adult Choir

The adult choir is under the direction of Paulette Smith. They sing at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday mornings, as well as special liturgies throughout the year. Rehearsals are Mondays at 7:00 p.m. in the church.

ELEVEN

ELEVEN is the contemporary group, incorporating various instruments and vocals. They minister at the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday mornings throughout the year. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings in the church. Auditions are required for this ensemble.

Cantors and Pianists

Mary Our Queen has several cantors and pianists that lead the music at our 5:30 p.m. Saturday Mass and 12:30 p.m. Sunday Mass. These masses feature more traditional music. There are no rehearsals for this ministry – musicians collaborate together before their scheduled masses according to their own schedules.

Funeral Choir

The Funeral Choir at Mary Our Queen is a volunteer ministry singing at the funerals of our deceased parishioners. Rehearsals are held 3 – 4 times per year, and they sing as needed when they are requested. The choir typically receives notice 2 – 3 days prior to the funeral, and will meet for 30 minutes before the liturgy to rehearse. This is a great opportunity to get involved – come when you can and offer your voice as we take leave of our brothers and sisters.

Children and Youth Choirs

The ministry of our youth choirs is to provide music for parish masses, sacraments, and Mary Our Queen school masses. All Mary Our Queen School, Public School, and Home School students who wish to participate are welcome.

The Youth choir is open to all students in grades 6 – 8 and rehearses Wednesday afternoons from 3:15 – 4:00 p.m.

The Children’s Choir is open to all students in grades 3 – 5 and rehearses on Tuesday afternoons from 3:15 – 4:00 p.m.

Children and Youth Choirs

All children of the parish in grades 3 – 5 are welcome to sing in the Christmas Choir. This choir rehearses during the three weeks leading up to the Vigil of the Nativity, and sings at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve.
