Scripture for Times of Grieving

Mourning the loss of a loved one is a time of intense pain. One of the greatest gifts we receive from our faith in God is hope. May these passages from Scripture bring you comfort by offering hope in the eternal life with your loved ones and God.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am"

- John 14:1-3

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted"

- Matthew 5:4

"And I have the same hope in God as these men, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked"

- Acts 24:15

"And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up on the last day"

- John 6:39

"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?'"

- John 11:25-27

"We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him"

- 1 Thessalonians 4:14

"Then I heard a voice from heaven say, 'Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.' 'Yes,' says the Spirit, 'they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them'"

- Revelations 14:13

"When I call out to the Lord, he answers me from his holy mountain.
When I lie down in sleep, I wake again, for the Lord sustains me"
